Tibet: Rights group says 3 more dead after police shooting

Beijing: An overseas rights group says three more Tibetan protesters shot and detained by Chinese authorities have died in jail after being denied medical treatment for their injuries, which would bring the death toll in recent violence to five. The London-based Free Tibet on Wednesday identified the dead as 60-year-old Tsewang Gonpo, 42-year-old Yeshe and 18-year-old Jinpa Tharchin, who had joined about 100 Tibetans on 12 August to protest the detention of a Tibetan village leader in Ganzi prefecture in the southwestern province of Sichuan. Free Tibet says two others had died earlier. The Ganzi government and police did not respond to media inquiries by phone on Thursday. Associated Press
