A large throne featuring a golden toilet has been installed on the National Mall in Washington as a satirical critique of US President Donald Trump’s renovation projects at the White House.

Designed to resemble marble and gold, the installation replaces the traditional seat with a toilet and includes a plaque reading, “A throne fit for a king.”

People described the throne as a symbol of alleged misuse of public funds by the President’s administration, with several saying “enough is enough.”

Another inscription on the display reads, “In a time of unprecedented division, escalating conflict, and economic turmoil, Trump focused on what truly mattered: remodeling the Lincoln bathroom in the White House.

It stands as a tribute to an unwavering visionary who looked down, saw a problem and painted it gold.”

The installation appears to reference Trump’s ongoing efforts to redesign parts of the White House and other landmarks in Washington since returning to office last year.

These include renovations to the bathroom near the Lincoln Bedroom, the addition of gold detailing in the Oval Office, demolition of the East Wing to construct a ballroom, and proposed redevelopment of the Kennedy Center.

Responding to the installation, White House spokesperson Davis Ingle defended the president’s initiatives, stating that Trump was “making the White House and our entire Nation’s Capital more beautiful than ever before.”

“The president will never stop working on behalf of the American people and fulfill the promises that he was overwhelmingly elected to do,” Ingle said in response to a request for comment on the throne.

The artwork also features a roll of toilet paper labeled “The Secret Handshake.” A group by that name previously claimed responsibility for another controversial statue depicting Trump alongside Jeffrey Epstein, according to US media reports. Reuters said it could not immediately reach the group for comment.

The National Park Service, which oversees the National Mall, has not issued any official statement regarding the installation.
