A footage filmed by an army drone from above Kathmandu has revealed the true scale of destruction wrought by Saturday’s earthquake in the country.
The video shows Kathmandu’s iconic monuments toppled, roads cracked and residential buildings completely ruined. With ancient and century-old works of art reduced to a pile of rubble, the video is likely to bring about a heartache for the travellers who have frequented the beautiful Himalayan country.
The death toll in the 7.9-magnitude earthquake has crossed 4,200 and is counting, as search and rescue missions are in progress.
Nearly 100 aftershocks, including the one measured at magnitude 6.7, have hampered rescue efforts and heightened worries of those who are sleeping in open squares and parks.
Shock turned to anger in Nepal on Tuesday as some of the tens of thousands stricken by the earthquake expressed frustration at what they said was their government’s slow response to the crisis.
Hospitals are overflowing, while water, food and power are scarce, raising fears of waterborne diseases.
With aid slow to reach many of the most vulnerable, some Nepalis were critical of the government.
