“These types of horrific events by terrorists are why those of us who work for peace and stability in the world continue our mission…,” said White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt.

Leavitt confirmed that President Donald Trump has been briefed by National Security Advisor Robert O’Brien on the deadly attack and is being kept updated as more details emerge about the brutal attack at the popular tourist destination.

“The President has been briefed and is being kept up to speed as more facts are learned,” she said.

She also mentioned that President Trump will soon be speaking with Prime Minister Narendra Modi to offer his heartfelt condolences for those lost in the attack, while also expressing the United States’ prayers for the injured and reaffirming support for India.

Terrorists opened fire at a popular meadow near Pahalgam, Kashmir, often referred to as “mini Switzerland,” targeting tourists who were enjoying meals, pony rides, or picnicking, according to officials and eyewitnesses.

As news of the attack emerged, Prime Minister Narendra Modi immediately called Home Minister Amit Shah, urging him to visit the Union Territory.
