India on Saturday said it is closely monitoring the escalating conflict between Thailand and Cambodia, following military clashes that have left dozens dead and displaced thousands. New Delhi expressed hope that both nations would take steps to end the hostilities and prevent further escalation.
The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) also advised Indian citizens in both countries to remain vigilant and reach out to the respective embassies if they need any assistance.
“We are closely monitoring the situation along the Cambodia-Thailand border,” said MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal. “India has close and friendly relations with both countries and hopes that both sides will take measures for a cessation of hostilities and prevention of further escalation. As the clashes entered their third day, India issued an advisory on Saturday urging its citizens in Cambodia to avoid travelling to areas near the Thai border. “In view of the ongoing clashes at the Cambodia-Thailand border, Indian nationals are advised to avoid travelling to the border areas,” the Indian Embassy in Cambodia posted on X.
A day earlier, India had issued a similar advisory for its citizens in Thailand, advising them to exercise caution and avoid travelling to seven provinces affected by the tensions. The Indian Mission also urged travellers to stay updated through official Thai sources, including the Tourism Authority of Thailand, before making any travel plans.
