It was reported that the telecommunication servers were down in Afghanistan after Taliban cut down the fibre-optic connections in various parts of the province as a part of crackdown on immoral practices. The Taliban rejected the similar reports on Wednesday about the nationwide internet ban in the country claiming that the old optic fibres were being replaced.
From the past irregularity in connections and disrupted banking availability this was the first public announcement by the Taliban government.
“There is nothing like the rumours being spread that we have imposed a ban on the internet," Taliban officials said in a three-line statement shared in a WhatsApp chat group with Pakistani journalists.
The statement, which also was posted on social media platform X, cited Taliban chief spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid saying ongoing nationwide disruptions were the result of “decaying fibre optic infrastructure” that is now being replaced.
