After the US, pro-Palestinian protests have reached Australian universities. On Tuesday, a video of students holding anti-Israeli demonstrations at the Sydney University went viral.

In the video, students can be heard chanting “Free Palestine.”

What happened at NYU?

The NYPD late on Monday began their drive to clear out the “liberated zone” created by supporters of the Palestinian cause inside the NYU campus.

NYU’s Global Campus Safety said in a post on Instagram that the student protestors had breached the barriers set up at Gould Plaza, Fountain Walker.

“The one safety requirement we made was that no additional protestors could enter Gould Plaza. With the breach of the barricades early this afternoon, that requirement was violated, and we witnessed disorderly, disruptive, and antagonizing behavior that has interfered with the safety and security of our community,” the university said in a statement.

Ports emerge as centre of pro-Palestinian protests

In Australia, ports have emerged as the centre of pro-Palestinian rallies. Protestors here have targeted ships and vessels found to have links with Israel.

“I have family in Gaza and they have nowhere to go in the bombarded prison it has become,” said Tasnim Mahmoud Sammak, a member of the Free Palestine Melbourne community.

A number of activists and protestors have also faced arrests owing to their demonstrations.
