Suicide bomber kills 7, injures 25 at wedding ceremony in northwest Pakistan

As many as seven people lost their lives, and 25 others were injured after a suicide bomber detonated an explosive vest among guests attending a wedding ceremony in northwest Pakistan on Friday. The incident took place at a private residence during the celebrations, turning the crowded event into a scene of chaos and destruction.

The blast occurred at the residence of Noor Alam Mehsud, described as a pro-government community leader, in the Dera Ismail Khan district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province. According to local police chief Adnan Khan, the explosion triggered panic among those present. Debris and bloodstains were left scattered across the venue.

Guests had been dancing when the attacker struck. The force of the explosion caused the roof to collapse, which hampered rescue efforts and made it difficult to reach people trapped under the debris.

Casualties and emergency response

Police said those killed and injured were taken to a nearby hospital. Several of the wounded were reported to be in critical condition. Security personnel sealed off the area and began a search operation to identify possible accomplices, news agency AP reported.

No group immediately claimed responsibility for the attack. However, suspicion has fallen on the Pakistani Taliban, also known as Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP). The group has carried out numerous attacks in Pakistan in recent years.
