After the London School of Economics hit out at the BBC for sending along three journalists with a student team to North Korea, six students from the group have slammed the university claiming that the public disclosures had endangered their lives more than the trip itself. The six students - Hoe-Yeong Loke, Mila Akimova and four others who were not named– have written to the LSE director saying that the university decision to go public with the information had exposed them to more threats from North Korea.

“We feel that we have now been put in more risk than was originally the case, as a result of the LSE’s decision to go public with their story,” a report by the Guardian quoted the students were quoted as saying in the open letter.

Alleging that the LSE had not consulted them for their own accounts before criticising the BBC, the students said they were told in London that a journalist would be accompanying them and that they risked deportation and detention. Later before they left for Pyongyang, they met with the journalist, his wife and a BBC cameraman.

A war of words had erupted between the BBC and the LSE over the journalists travelling with the students to North Korea.
