‘She just made big story:’ Trump gets hit in the face with microphone, gives death stare

Raised eyebrows, disapproval all over the face and a stare right into the soul: A poor reporters had to face this side of President Donald Trump on Friday (March 14) as the US leader interacted with the press at Joint Base Andrews.

As he started addressing questions from reporters, a ‘dead cat’ accidentally hit his mouth.

Dead cat here refers to synthetic furs covering the boom microphone. These are also called wind muffs, used to block winds from entering the mic and reducing the noise from around.

As soon as the ‘dead cat’ hit his face, Trump gave an irritated look which soon went viral on social media.

“She made television tonight, she just became a big story tonight,” Trump quipped, flashing a smile.

Trump added, “Did you see that," as he laughed off in disbelief.

The incident happened just before his departure from Washington DC. Trump was answering questions on Gaza when the microphone smacked him in the face.

It was not known which news channel the microphone operator was working for. Even as the brief interruption threw him off, Trump kept answering questions before boarding the plane.

The bizarre incident, along with Trump’s reaction, became prime material for memes, making social media users chuckle.

It also sparked conspiracy theories, with one X user suggesting that the microphone could have been laced with a deadly substance like anthrax or fentanyl, warning that it shouldn’t be taken lightly.

“If Trump dies mysteriously in the next few hours, I’m blaming that microphone person,” one user said.

“Actually should be investigated. Could be poison on that mic. Sounds ridiculous, but you never know,” a second user warned.

Far-right provocateur Laura Loomer slammed the media in a post on X.

“How on earth did a reporter get that boom mic so close to Trump’s face? This just doesn’t seem right. Security should tighten up. Embarrassing for the press.”

Earlier in the day, Trump targeted CNN and MSNCB for what he termed as “illegal reporting”.

“The Washington Post, The Wall Street Journal and MSDNC, and the fake news, CNN and ABC, CBS and NBC, they’ll write whatever they say,” Trump said. “And what do you do to get rid of it? You convict Trump.”

“It’s totally illegal what they do,” Trump continued, addressing DOJ employees. “I just hope you can all watch for it, but it’s totally illegal.”
