Several people were reported to be injured from explosions at a gas station in Italy’s Rome. The explosions are said to have occurred this morning at a gas station.

Several people have been injured in an explosion at a gas station in Italy’s capital Rome, according to media reports.

There is no information yet about the cause of the blast or whether it was an accident or an act of sabotage.

The explosion was reported at a distributor of petrol, diesel, and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) in Rome’s Via dei Gordiani neighbourhood.

Reuters cited media reports as saying that three persons were injured with severe burns.

Footage published by local website shows a mushroom-shaped fireball rising to the sky.

The outlet suggested that a gas leak caused the blast. It said that the smell of gas was detected before multiple explosions at around 8 am on Friday. The fire was such that it was visible from several places across the city.

The report further said that around 40 people were rescued from a nearby building. It said that at least seven ambulances from across Rome were dispatched to the site.

Among those injured are a firefighter, several emergency medical workers, at least eight police officers, some passersby, and local residents, according to the report.
