At least seven blasts have struck Pakistan’s volatile Balochistan province over the past 24 hours, with no fatalities reported, though two security guards working for a construction firm were injured.
The attacks, believed to have been carried out by insurgents, targeted locations in Quetta, the provincial capital and Dera Murad Jamali.
According to officials, militants threw hand grenades at a police checkpoint in Quetta on Saturday, after which an IED was set off near a vehicle belonging to the Anti-Terrorism Department. Three additional explosions followed later in the day.
Senior Superintendent of Police Asif Khan said one of the blasts occurred near Lohr Karez on Quetta’s outskirts, destroying the main supply line linking the city with the rest of the country.
The incidents triggered fear and alarm in Quetta, though authorities confirmed that no loss of life had occurred.
SSP Khan said miscreants planted IED devices on the railway track and blew them when a train was scheduled to reach Quetta station. The blast caused damage to the track, leading to the suspension of railway traffic.
A patrolling police vehicle also came under attack in Dera Murad Jamali, with attackers hurling hand grenades.
SSP Khan said armed men had also attacked a construction company site on Quetta’s Sariab road with hand grenades, which damaged machinery and injured two security guards.
