The US Republican Majority on the House Committee on Foreign Affairs on Wednesday (April 23) slammed the New York Times newspaper for its controversial reporting on the terror attack in India’s Jammu and Kashmir region, in which 26 people were killed.
The paper described the terror attack as a “shooting incident” and the terrorists as “militants” and “gunmen” in its story.
The House Foreign Affairs Committee Majority posted on X a modified version of the controversial NYT headline, replacing ‘militants’ with ’terrorists’.
“Hey, @nytimes we fixed it for you. This was a TERRORIST ATTACK plain and simple. Whether it’s India or Israel, when it comes to TERRORISM the NYT is removed from reality,” the post read.

The comments by the committee come as the US administration under President Donald Trump and the Republican Party continue to strongly support India after the Pahalgam attack.
“Deeply disturbing news out of Kashmir. The United States stands strong with India against Terrorism. We pray for the souls of those lost, and for the recovery of the injured. Prime Minister Modi, and the incredible people of India, have our full support and deepest sympathies. Our hearts are with you all!” Trump wrote in a post on Truth Social.
The House Foreign Affairs Committee is a permanent committee in the US House of Representatives. It handles bills and investigations related to America’s foreign relations.
Controversial reporting
The Western media’s coverage of the Kashmir terror attack has faced strong criticism from Indian users. Many accuse these outlets of downplaying the severity of the tragedy and ignoring key facts, such as the religious targeting of victims.
Another US broadcaster, CNN, referred to the terrorists simply as “gunmen” and did not mention that the victims were targeted and killed after being identified as Hindus.
Shital Kalathiya, wife of Shailesh Kalathiya, one of those 26 killed, explained, “We had just reached Mini Switzerland when the firing had started. It happened twice, and after the second shot, everyone started running. They surrounded us and asked the Hindu men to separate from the Muslim men.”
The Washington Post also termed the attackers as “gunmen” in line with most of the American media outlets.
