The Amir of Qatar Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al-Thani will be making an official visit to India from February 17 to 18, the Ministry of External Affairs said on Saturday.
This will be Thani’s second trip to India, the first being in 2015. He will be visiting the country at the invitation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The foreign ministry said that the Amir, who will be accompanied by a high-level delegation, will receive a ceremonial welcome at the Rashtrapati Bhawan in New Delhi on February 18 following which he is also slated to hold discussions with President Droupadi Murmu.
The ministry said, “India and Qatar have deep-rooted historical ties of friendship, trust and mutual respect. In recent years, the ties between the two countries including in the areas of trade, investment, energy, technology, culture and people-to-people ties have continued to strengthen.”
“The Indian community residing in Qatar forms the largest expatriate community of Qatar, and is appreciated for its positive contribution in the progress and development of Qatar. The visit of His Highness the Amir will provide further momentum to our growing multifaceted partnership,” it added.
