Prime Minister Narendra Modi in a call with Russian leader Vladimir Putin assured “all possible contributions” towards the resolution of the war in Ukraine.

In a post on X, Modi said that Putin called him on the occasion of his 75th birthday. The two leaders also discussed the war in Ukraine.

“India is ready to make all possible contributions towards a peaceful resolution of the Ukraine conflict,” said Modi.

Thank you, my friend, President Putin, for your phone call and warm wishes on my 75th birthday. We are committed to further strengthening our Special and Privileged Strategic Partnership. India is ready to make all possible contributions towards a peaceful resolution of the…

The Putin-Modi call came within 24 hours of a call between Trump and Modi in which the two leaders discussed the war in Ukraine.

Since the beginning of the war in 2022, India has maintained that dialogue and diplomacy should resolve the conflict. Even as the United States has done most of the mediation in recent months and Turkey has previously hosted direct talks between the two countries, India has constantly engaged both the sides and reports have said that India has played a role in peace efforts on multiple occasions.

In one instance, India and China were part of a multinational effort to dial down nuclear tensions in the Russia-Ukraine conflict, according to CNN.

In another instances, National Security Adviser Ajit Doval’s visit to Russia and meeting with Putin was seen as part of coordinated efforts to seek a resolution to the crisis, according to NDTV.

Ahead of that visit, sources had said that Doval’s visit to Russia would be aimed at resolving the Russia-Ukraine conflict and that he would be carrying Modi’s peace plan for Putin, according to the report.

In their call yesterday, Trump had praised Modi’s efforts in seeking an end to the war in Ukraine. Likewise, appreciating Trump’s mediation, Trump had said, “We support your initiatives towards a peaceful resolution of the Ukraine conflict.”
