Addressing a joint briefing alongside Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenković in Zagreb, PM Modi said, “We agree that terrorism is the enemy of humanity and is against the forces that believe in democracy. We are deeply grateful to the Prime Minister and the Croatian Government for their condolences on the terrorist attack in India on April 22.”

“In such a difficult time, the support of our friendly countries was very valuable to us,” he added.

PM Modi also underscored the importance of deepening ties between India and Europe, noting the role of Croatia in advancing that engagement.

“We both agree that the India-Europe partnership holds great importance in today’s global environment. Croatia’s support and cooperation are very important in strengthening our strategic partnership with the EU,” he said.

On his par, Prime Minister Plenković said Croatia has understood very well PM Modi’s message on fighting against terrorism because that is the biggest threat to global stability.

“…We have also discussed and expressed sorrow for the terrorist attack that happened in India, after which India had to react, and we also said that the global situation in terms of security is very volatile. So it is important to have the most influential actors worldwide to give their contribution to peace… We have understood very well the Indian Prime Minister’s message on fighting against terrorism because that is the biggest threat to global stability…,” Plenković said.

On April 22 this year, Pakistan-backed terrorists killed 26 people, mostly tourists, in Jammu and Kashmir’s picturesque Pahalgam.

To avenge the killings, India carried out precision strikes under ‘Operation Sindoor’ on terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir early on May 7.

Following the Indian action, Pakistan attempted to attack Indian military bases on May 8, 9 and 10. The Indian forces launched a fierce counter-attack on several Pakistani military installations.

India and Pakistan reached an understanding on May 10 to end the conflict after four days of intense cross-border drone and missile strikes.
