PM Modi will meet US President Donald Trump for a bilateral meeting in the Oval Office tomorrow. It will be held in the wee hours of the morning in India.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi met US National Security Advisor Michael Waltz on Thursday at Blair House in Washington, DC.  They discussed key strategic and security issues between India and the United States

“Had a fruitful meeting with NSA @michaelgwaltz. He has always been a great friend of India. Defence, technology and security are important aspects of India-USA ties and we had a wonderful discussion around these issues. There is strong potential for cooperation in sectors like AI, semiconductors, space and more.

PM Modi, who is staying at the US presidential guest house Blair House in Washington DC, will also meet Elon Musk and Indian American entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy before heading to the White House to meet his “friend” Trump for the first meeting since the US President’s inauguration.

Upon his arrival in Washington, the Prime Minister met US Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard and discussed various aspects of the India-USA friendship.

There is a lot on the agenda. Tariffs are a big concern and Trump has warned of “ reciprocal” tariffs ahead of his meeting with Modi. It remains to be seen if the PM can avert a tariff clash and strike a trade deal with the US instead. America’s crackdown on illegal Indian immigrants will be on the cards.

The two leaders will hold a press conference in the East Room of the White House. Trump will then host a dinner for PM Modi.

It’s less than a month since Trump returned to the White House but his second term is shaking up the world order. The Indian PM is among the few leaders to meet Potus face-to-face since taking office and Modi can hope his visit sets the tone for strong ties between the two nations for the next four years.
