Prime Minister Narendra Modi reached the United States on Saturday (September 21) for his three-day visit. He had departed for Philadelphia early on Saturday.
During the extent of his visit, Modi will attend the annual Quad summit at Wilmington in Delaware, address the ‘Summit of the Future’ at the UN General Assembly in New York, and hold a roundtable with CEOs of top American firms working in the technology sector.
PM Modi received a warm welcome in the US, replete with chants of his name, garba dance, and a showcasing of Mithila paintings. He interacted with and praised the Indian diaspora as well.
On Saturday, PM Modi met US President Joe Biden, alongside Secretary of State Antony Blinken, Jake Sullivan, Assistant to the President for National Security Affairs and Eric Garcetti, Ambassador of the United States to India.
The Quad summit is being hosted in Biden’s hometown of Wilmington.
In his bilateral meeting with President Biden, PM Modi is likely to have discussed the Russia-Ukraine war and India’s potential role as a mediator, as well as China’s role in the Indo-Pacific.
Before leaving for the US, PM Modi said, “I look forward to joining my colleagues President Biden, Prime Minister Albanese and Prime Minister Kishida for the Quad Summit,” Modi said in a departure statement.
