‘I am eagerly looking forward to it’: What are Prime Minister’s four-point agenda

In the statement, PM Modi laid out the list of engagements he is looking forward to. This included his bilateral meeting with Quad leaders along with his interaction with the vibrant Indian diaspora. Here are PM Modi’s four-point agenda:

  • Quad Summit and the bilateral meetings that follow - PM Modi mentioned that he is looking forward to meeting his colleagues, US President Joe Biden, Australian Prime Minister Antony Albanese and Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida for the summit. “The forum has emerged as a key group of like-minded countries to work for peace, progress and prosperity in the Indo-Pacific region,” he wrote in his remarks.

  • Meeting with Biden on the cards - The Prime Minister noted that his bilateral meeting with Biden will allow both the countries to “review and identify new pathways to further deepen India-US Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership for the benefit of our people and the global good.”

  • Interaction with key players - He also expressed his excitement over his upcoming meeting with the Indian diaspora in the US and mentioned that he will be meeting important American business leaders, “who are the key stakeholders and provide vibrancy to the unique partnership between the largest and the oldest democracies of the world.”

  • UN Summit - Finally, he stated that the UNGA Summit of the Future is an “opportunity for the global community to chart the road ahead for the betterment of humanity. I will share views of the one-sixth of humanity as their stakes in a peaceful and secure future are among the highest in the world.”

What’s more in store

Prime Minister’s schedule in the United States will be jam-packed. Here’s a dive into what’s more in store:

  • Initiative to prevent cancer - One of the key outcomes of the Quad leader’s summit will be the announcement of a new initiative to prevent, detect, and treat cancer. The plan which focuses on providing health security and humanitarian assistance is expected to deal with the impact of the disease on the patients and their families.

  • Global conflicts - With two wars grappling the world, the leaders are expected to discuss the global mayhem. With the Prime Minister’s recent visit to Ukraine and Russia, India is now being touted as the potential mediator in the ongoing Ukraine-Russia war. The Prime Minister is also expected to touch upon the Gaza crisis as the Israel-Hamas war continues to rage on.

  • Roundtable meeting with US tech giants - PM Modi is scheduled to hold talks with top executives from major American tech firms to discuss advancements in artificial intelligence, quantum computing, and semiconductor technology. The roundtable is expected to strengthen technological collaboration between India and the US.
