Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday departed on an 8-day diplomatic tour covering five nations across Africa, Latin America and the Caribbean with a focus on boosting ties with the Global South and deepening cooperation in trade, energy, technology and multilateral engagement. During this tour, PM Modi will visit Ghana, Trinidad, Argentina, Brazil and Namibia from July 2 to July 9.

PM Modi said that the tour will reinforce India’s partnerships across the Global South, enhance its footprint on multilateral platforms, and foster ties across both sides of the Atlantic.

“I look forward to my exchanges aimed at further deepening our historical ties and opening up new windows of cooperation, including in the areas of investment, energy, health, security, capacity building and development partnership,” the prime minister said in the statement.

Next, PM Modi will travel to Argentina — the first visit by an Indian Prime Minister in 57 years. In Buenos Aires, he will meet President Javier Milei to explore partnerships in agriculture, trade, technology, and critical minerals.

The highlight of the tour will be the Brics Summit in Rio de Janeiro on July 6–7. Modi will reaffirm India’s role as a founding member of Brics and meet Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva in Brasília to discuss Global South priorities.

The final stop is Namibia, where PM Modi will meet President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah and address the Namibian Parliament. The visit aims to honour shared anti-colonial struggles and strengthen regional ties.
