Modi-Trump talks: 'Reminds me of Howdy Modi and Namaste Trump...want to continue in the same spirit'

PM Modi’s visit comes nearly three weeks after the January 20 inauguration of Trump and amid tariff threats issued by the US leader in the recent past.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi met US President Donald Trump on Friday. Both the leaders recalled the Howdy Modi event in Houston and the Namaste Trump event in Ahmedabad during President Trump’s visit to India.

PM Modi said he has learned from President Donald Trump to always put the nation first, a principle he deeply appreciates.

Upon his arrival in Washington, the Prime Minister met US Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard, National Security Advisor Michael Waltz, met Indian American entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy, Tesla CEO Elon Musk and discussed various aspects of the India-USA friendship.

President Trump clarified his stance on trade tariffs, saying that the US is “not looking at beating anyone” while talking about using tariffs on India to counter China.

PM Modi also expressed support for President Trump’s diplomatic efforts to bring peace to Ukraine. During his visit to Washington. PM Modi said, “I am happy that President Trump spoke to President Putin to ensure peace in Ukraine.”

“India is not neutral; our stand is to ensure peace. We support every effort for peace in Ukraine, and I support President Trump’s efforts,” he said while reaffirming India’s position.

PM Modi said there is a notion that India is neutral and said that India is not neutral but takes the side of peace while referring to the Ukraine conflict.

PM Modi said Donald Trump is synonymous with the Make America Great Again (MAGA) movement and said just like the US President, who puts American interests first, he also prioritises India’s interests.

US President Donald Trump said PM Modi is doing a great job in India and calls him a great leader.

It’s less than a month since Trump returned to the White House but his second term is shaking up the world order. The Indian PM is among the few leaders who met Potus face-to-face since taking office and Modi can hope his visit sets the tone for strong ties between the two nations for the next four years.
