Planes collide at Seattle airport a week after a passenger aircraft, Army chopper crashed midair near DC

A Japan Airlines plane and a Delta Air Lines plane collided on the ground in Seattle-Tacoma International Airport on Wednesday, US-based Fox News reported.

The incident comes just a week after an American Airlines plane collided with a Military Hawk Helicopter mid-air in Washington DC, killing 67 people.

The collision occurred when both aircraft were on the ground, and no casualties were reported.

Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (SEA) said in a social media post that the Port of Seattle Fire, police, and SEA operations responded to an incident just after 10:15 a.m. local time, on a ramp on a taxi line between S Concourse and the south airport maintenance hangars.

The airport said in a statement that the incident involved a taxiing Japan Airlines aircraft “that appears to have struck” the tail of a parked Delta Air Lines aircraft.

The Federal Aviation Administration temporarily halted some flights to the airport after the incident. The agency said it will investigate.

A Delta 737-800 with 142 passengers, bound for Puerto Vallarta, was waiting for deicing near the runway. A Japan Airlines 787-9 Dreamliner from Tokyo landed and struck it, Reuters reported.

Delta Airlines said it will work with the FAA and others to investigate the incident.

Washington crash kills 67

Earlier, an American Airlines passenger jet and a US Army Black Hawk helicopter collided mid-air in Washington. The accident resulted in the deaths of 67 people, including 60 passengers and four crew members from the plane. Three soldiers were aboard the helicopter at the time of the crash.

The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) has said that the helicopter was flying at an altitude of 300 feet, exceeding the maximum permitted altitude of 200 feet in that area.

This collision marks the deadliest US aviation disaster in over two decades.
