An aircraft carrying Malawi’s Vice-President Saulos Chilima and nine others has gone missing on Monday. the president’s office said in a statement.
Malawi government has launched a search for the plane carrying Chilima.
The Malawi Defence Force aircraft “went off the radar” after it departed from the capital, Lilongwe, shortly after 9 am (local time).
The aircraft was scheduled to land at Mzuzu International Airport, in the north of the Southern African nation after 10 am (local time).
“All efforts by aviation authorities to make contact with the aircraft have failed thus far,” Secretary to the President Colleen Zamba said in the statement.
After being informed of the vice-president’s plane going missing, Malawi’s President Lazarus Chakwera cancelled his scheduled flight to the Bahamas.
