Chinese doctors have saved his severed hand by grafting it to his ankle, local media reported. Xie Wei lost his right hand in an accident at work but could not have it reattached to his arm right away. AFP[/caption] [caption id=“attachment_1293291” align=“alignleft” width=“940”]
Doctors kept the hand alive by stitching it to his left ankle and “borrowing” a blood supply from arteries in the leg. Later, they managed to replant the hand back on his arm. AFP[/caption] [caption id=“attachment_1293293” align=“alignleft” width=“940”]
Xie had kept his hand in a plastic bag at first, then stored it in a cooler of ice. In total, it took about seven hours to get to a doctor who could help, CNN reported. AFP[/caption] [caption id=“attachment_1293295” align=“alignleft” width=“940”]
Doctors have reportedly said it will take at least six months before a complete recovery of the nerves. AFP[/caption]
