Lahore: Pakistan, which has deferred granting MFN status to India, today said will “fine tune” its trade policies with the new government that will come to power after the general elections in April. “Pakistan will fine tune our trade with India when a new government is formed after the general elections there this year,” National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq told businessmen at the Lahore Chamber of Commerce here today. Now we have decided to take up the issue with the new government.” Federal Commerce Minister Engineer Khurram Dastagir Khan said there is no decision on immediately granting status of Most Favoured Nation (MFN) to India. “The decision to give MFN status to India has been deferred,” he told a local news channel. During his visit to India in January, Khan had declared that India would be given status MFN status in 45 days. “Yes, we have agreed to give non-discriminatory market access to India next month,” Khan told media in India. He had said he got a clear mandate from Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to grant MFN status to India in a shorter time. India will go to polls from 7 April to May 12. PTI
