Pahalgam terror attack: Airlines waive change, cancellation charges; run special flights

In the wake of the tragic Pahalgam terror attack that killed at least 26 people, airlines are operating special flights to support affected passengers.

Pahalgam terror attack: Airlines waive change, cancellation charges; run special flights

Following the tragic terror attack in Pahalgam that left at least 28 people dead, airlines have announced special measures for affected passengers, including extra flights and waivers on rescheduling and cancellation fees.

Air India and IndiGo will operate special flights from Srinagar to Delhi and Mumbai on Wednesday.

Air India and its budget airline, Air India Express, have also offered free rescheduling and full refunds on all flights to and from Srinagar until April 30.

This comes a day after terrorists opened fire at a popular tourist spot in Pahalgam, Kashmir, killing at least 26 people, most of them tourists.

“In view of the prevailing situation, Air India will operate two additional flights from Srinagar to Delhi and Mumbai on Wednesday, April 23,” Air India said in a post on X.

An IndiGo official said the airline will run two extra flights from Srinagar to Delhi and Mumbai on Wednesday.

Dy DM Shinde speaks to Naidu

Meanwhile, Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde spoke to Civil Aviation Minister K Rammohan Naidu about the tragic attack in Pahalgam, where several tourists from Maharashtra were killed.

Shinde has asked the minister to arrange special transport to bring the bodies of the victims from Srinagar to Mumbai as soon as possible.

Air India to run extra flights

Air India on Wednesday will run a flight from Srinagar to Delhi at 11:30 am and another to Mumbai at 12 noon.

“All our other flights to and from Srinagar will run as scheduled,” the airline said. Air India currently operates five daily flights from Delhi and Mumbai to Srinagar.

The airline is also offering free rescheduling and full refunds for passengers with confirmed bookings on these routes until April 30.

IndiGo, in a statement, said it is supporting travelers to and from Srinagar by waiving cancellation and rescheduling charges. It has also added two extra flights from Mumbai and Delhi to Srinagar, in addition to its regular schedule. IndiGo currently operates 20 daily flights from Srinagar.

Air India Express also said it is fully supporting passengers due to the situation in Pahalgam. Those booked to fly to or from Srinagar until April 30, 2025, can reschedule their tickets without any extra charges or fare difference, the airline said in a post on X.
