US Secretary of State Marco Rubio on Thursday spoke to External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar as the situation along the India-Pakistan border escalated after Islamabad launched air attacks on Jammu, Rajasthan and Punjab. The artillery fire, drone and missile attacks were thwarted by the Indian defence system.
In a statement released by the US State Department, spokesperson Tammy Bruce said, “Secretary Rubio spoke with Indian External Affairs Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar. The Secretary emphasised the need for immediate de-escalation. He expressed US support for direct dialogue between India and Pakistan and encouraged continued efforts to improve communications.”
Jaishakar later posted about his conversation with Rubio on X.

Pakistan launched a series of artillery strikes, drone incursions, and missile attacks targeting multiple locations in Jammu, including a strategic airstrip, just a day after India carried out strikes on terror hideouts in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK).
Security agencies reported that Pakistan fired eight missiles, all of which were successfully intercepted by the S-400 air defense system.
At the same time, Rubio also spoke to Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to discuss the ongoing situation along the border and delivered the same message to Islamabad about de-escalation and mediation.
