Pakistani troops continued cross-border shelling along the Line of Control (LoC) in Kupwara district of Jammu and Kashmir for the second consecutive day on Thursday. The shelling began after midnight, with Pakistani forces targeting civilian areas in Karnah, officials said.

Most residents in Karnah had already moved to safer places on Wednesday, following the start of shelling after India’s ‘Operation Sindoor’, which targeted terror camps across the border.

Earlier, 15 Indians were killed and 43 others injured in heavy firing and shelling by Pakistani forces along the LoC and International Border in the Poonch and Tangdhar areas of Jammu and Kashmir, the Army said.

The development comes as a frustrated Pakistan resorts to its old tactics of targeting civilians. India conducted Operation Sindoor on Wednesday, carrying out precision strikes on terror outfits in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK), in which 80 terrorists are reportedly dead.

The military strikes were carried out under ‘Operation Sindoor’, the Indian Army said in a statement released at 1.44 am.

“A little while ago, the Indian Armed forces launched ‘Operation Sindoor’ hitting terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir from where terrorist attacks against India have been planned and directed,” the Army said.

Earlier, Pakistani army fired heavy mortars at forward villages along the LoC in Poonch and Rajouri early Wednesday, shortly after the Indian armed forces launched missile strikes.
