US Treasury Scott Bessent has said that Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent is the only one who could deal with Chinese leader Xi Jinping.
In an interview with Fox News, Bessent said that no could strike deals “into China’s backyard” like Trump did.
“Only President Trump could deal with Xi Jinping. He did a fantastic job. He has great respect for him. Clearly, President Xi has great respect for President Trump. And President Trump rolled into Asia, into China’s backyard and did trade deals and peace deals,” said Bessent.
Last month, Trump was on a weeklong visit to Asia. He visited Malaysia where he attended the signing of the Cambodia-Thailand peace deal. He visited Japan where he held talks with Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi and singed deals. The last leg of the visit was South Korea where he met President Lee Jae Myung and held talks with Xi. The White House later announced that the two leaders reached a trade agreement.

Bessent further said, “The Japanese agreed to invest $550 billion into the US. Then he we went and we had the meeting with the Chinese. And I can tell you the President Trump has gotten us into a very good place with the relationship.”
With Japan, Trump agreed to reduce ‘reciprocal tariff’ to 15 per cent in exchange for Japanese investments totalling $550 billion and Japan opening its market to American food products, automobiles, and defence equipment.
With South Korea, Trump agreed to reduce the reciprocal tariff to 15 per cent in exchange for a $350 billion investment pledge.
