A boat carrying an estimated 90 undocumented migrants sank this week near the maritime border of Malaysia and Thailand, resulting in one confirmed death, Malaysian police reported on Sunday.

Authorities confirmed that one woman drowned in the incident, while rescue teams managed to save six people.

“A boat carrying 90 people is believed to have capsized,” three days ago, Kedah police chief Adzli Abu Shah told local media.

Adding to the gravity of the situation, the police chief also revealed that reports have been received concerning two other boats, each carrying a similar number of passengers, that have also been reported missing in the area.
