Norway child abuse case: India says it will not intervene

The Indian government has allegedly refused to intervene in the Norway child abuse case maintaining that there is more to the case than meets the eye. A Hindustan Times report said that the government will not intervene in the legal matter involving the Indian couple held in a alleged child abuse case in Norway. [caption id=“attachment_542061” align=“alignleft” width=“380”]  Ibnlive[/caption] However, earlier the Ministry of External Affairs had asked the consular officer in Norway to offer all help to the couple. An official from the Indian Embassy in Oslo also met the parents on Friday. Chandrashekar Vallabhaneni, a software professional from Andhra Pradesh, and his wife Anupama who were taken into custody by the police in Oslo Monday last for reprimanding their seven-year-old son for wetting his pants face up to one-and-a-half years in prison. The prosecution has asked for 15-month jail term for the mother and 18-month for the father for allegedly ill-treating their son repeatedly. They have been charged with ‘gross repeated maltreatment’ of their child by threats, violence and other wrong doing, under Section 219 of Norwegian law. In a statement, the Norway Police Department said, “Indian couple held in Norway for trying to discipline their son charged with gross repeated maltreatment of their child by threats, violence or other wrong.”
