Norway child abuse case: Couple files appeal in higher court

Hyderabad: Relatives of the Indian couple, who were sentenced to imprisonment in Norway for gross or repeated maltreatment of their child, on Thursday said the two have filed an appeal in the higher court against the decision of the Oslo court. According to Shailendra, nephew of Chandrasekhar Vallabhaneni, they are hoping some positive result from the high court. Here we are not able to convince the children as they never stayed without parents,” Shailendra said. The lawyers of the couple in Norway have reportedly provided reports prepared by Dr Kalyan Chakravarty, a psychiatrist treating Sai Sriram in Hyderabad, the elder son of Chandrasekhar on the conditions of the two children. Chandrasekhar in his report said the kids may face psychological and physical problems due to the separation from parents. “Based on the information given by the family members the children are not taking food in sufficient quantities and fluids intake is also reduced. This may develop further complications both psychologically as well as physically,” Chakravarthy said. “The younger child never stayed separately without parents. For the first time is being fed by others. This is not good in the long run.” Sai Sriram (elder son of Chandrasekhar) is suffering from Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, the psychiatrist said. PTI
