Former United States President Donald Trump claimed that North Korean leader Kim Jong-un calls President Joe Biden a “stupid man”. Trump made the revelation during his interview with billionaire Elon Musk being hosted on social media platform X (formerly Twitter).

Taking a hit at his opponents, Trump said “when they [world leaders] see a Kamala or a sleepy Joe, they can’t even believe it.”

Praise for controversial world leaders

During the course of the conversation, Trump also praised other world leaders that the West has shunned. Among these were Russian President Vladimir Putin, Chinese President Xi Jinping, and Kim Jong-un as well.

Regarding these leaders, Trump told Musk, “I know Putin. I know President Xi. I know Kim Jong-un." He went on to add that “They’re at the top of their game; they’re tough; they’re smart; they’re vicious — and they’re going to protect their country.”

He said that these leaders, who are often referred to as dictators, love their country, but that it is a different kind of love.

“I’m not saying anything good or bad [about these leaders],” Trump added, seeking to temper the implications of his praise.

He then spoke about how his relationship with Kim Jong-un helped the US.

“President Obama thought we were going to get into a nuclear war [with North Korea]," Trump said. He then claimed, “I had that problem handled quickly." This is not the first time the former US president has made such remarks.

North Korean leadership also favours Trump. According to Ri Il Kyu, the highest-ranking official known to have defected from North Korea since 2016, said that North Korea still sees Trump as someone it can negotiate with over its nuclear weapons programme. According to BBC, Ri said this despite talks between him and Kim Jong Un breaking down in 2019.
