Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Thursday said that Israel’s recent military campaign against Iran has opened the door to expanding peace deals with Arab nations, urging swift action to build on what he described as a “great victory.”

In a video message, Netanyahu declared that Israel had fought Iran “with determination” over the course of a 12-day war and emerged successful.

“This victory opens the path to dramatically enlarge the peace accords,” he said, referring to the US-brokered Abraham Accords under which Israel normalised ties with the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, and Morocco in 2020.

“Alongside the freeing of hostages and defeat of Hamas, there is a window of opportunity that must not be missed. We cannot waste even a single day.”

The US-brokered Israel-Iran ceasefire announced by Trump raised hopes among Palestinians of an end to over 20 months of war in Gaza that has widely demolished the territory and displaced most residents, with malnutrition widespread.

On Sunday, Netanyahu said that with a weakened Iran, he expected more countries to join the Abraham Accords.

“We have broken the axis,” Netanyahu told reporters then. “This is a huge change and Israel’s status is rising, not just in the West Asia but also in the world. This is a tectonic shift.”
