For the third day in a row, Palestinians heading to an aid distribution site in southern Gaza have come under fire, leaving nearly 30 dead and many others injured , CNN reported citing Palestinian Health Ministry and Nasser Hospital.
The ministry said Israeli forces shot at people as they approached the aid site in Rafah’s Tel al-Sultan early Tuesday.
The Israeli military said its troops fired several times after spotting “several suspects” moving toward them, away from the approved access routes.
“The troops carried out warning fire, and after the suspects failed to retreat, additional shots were directed near a few individual suspects who advanced toward the troops,” the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said in a statement.
3rd day of firing at Gazans
The shooting happened west of Rafah near the Al-Alam roundabout, according to paramedics from the Palestine Red Crescent Society. It was close to the same spot where similar incidents occurred over the past two days.
The deaths came just hours after Israel said three of its soldiers were killed in northern Gaza, as it continues its months-long offensive against Hamas that has devastated much of the area.
The International Committee of the Red Cross told Reuters that its field hospital in Rafah received 184 injured people. Of them, 19 were dead on arrival and eight died soon after. Over 35 patients needed urgent medical care, the spokesperson added.
