Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s historic visit to Brunei marks a significant milestone in the two countries’ 40-year diplomatic relationship. This visit demonstrates the growing friendship and collaboration between India and Brunei.
Prime Minister Modi arrived in Brunei on Tuesday for a bilateral visit and expressed his desire for strong bilateral ties, particularly in the areas of trade and culture.
According to a Ministry of External Affairs announcement, Brunei is a vital partner in India’s ‘Act East’ Policy and Indo-Pacific Vision. It highlighted that India and Brunei have a friendly relationship based on mutual respect and understanding of bilateral and multilateral concerns, as well as millennia-long historical, cultural, and traditional links.
The 40th anniversary of diplomatic ties between Brunei and India is being commemorated by this visit, which is the first bilateral visit by an Indian prime minister to that nation.
While in Brunei, PM Modi will hold in-depth conversations with the leadership about a range of bilateral issues and look into potential new areas of cooperation.
After this visit, on September 4-5, PM Modi will embark on the second half of his two-nation tour and head to Singapore, where he will meet with his counterpart, Lawrence Wong, from Singapore.
The trip will also include discussions with President Tharman Shanmugaratnam, as well as former Prime Ministers Lee Hsien Loong and Goh Chok Tong.
