Nancy Pelosi surrenders private office in the Capitol after interim House speaker served eviction notice

Nancy Pelosi, the former House Speaker of the US, has been reportedly evicted from her private office in the Capitol by the interim House Speaker following the ousting of Kevin McCarthy. The order to vacate her Capitol hideaway by Wednesday was served by the interim House Speaker Patrick McHenry, according to Fox News. The order by McHenry, who is a close ally to McCarthy, is one of his first acts after assuming the post. Pelosi was notified about the eviction via email which read, “Please vacate the space tomorrow, the room will be re-keyed.” Meanwhile, Nancy Pelosi, 83, moved out of her office on Tuesday, a day before the deadline, with the help of staff of House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, her spokesperson said. Capitol hideaways, a mainstay in the Senate, are a luxury offered to only a few House members. Pelosi speaks “With all of the important decisions that the new Republican Leadership must address, which we are all eagerly awaiting, one of the first actions taken by the new Speaker Pro Tempore was to order me to immediately vacate my office in the Capitol,” Pelosi said in a statement. She added, “Sadly because I am in California to mourn the loss of and pay tribute to my dear friend Dianne Feinstein, I am unable to retrieve my belongings at this time.” She continued, “This eviction is a sharp departure from tradition. As Speaker, I gave former Speaker [Dennis] Hastert a significantly larger suite of offices for as long as he wished.”
