Ostankino TV tower lights up in Indian-Russian flags for PM Modi's Moscow visit

One of Moscow’s landmarks, the Ostankino TV tower, was lit up in the colours of the flags of India and Russia on Monday as Prime Minister Narendra Modi began a two-day high-profile visit to the Russian capital to hold summit talks with President Vladimir Putin.

Rising to 1,771 feet (540m), the Ostankino TV Tower is the world’s 4th tallest and Europe’s highest of its kind. The tower was erected in 1967 by the well-known Soviet engineer, Nikolai Nikitin.

As the highest free-standing building in Russia, it is a renowned symbol of Russian broadcasting, as well as a famous landmark and a must-visit destination in Moscow.

Russian artists to perform garba at Putin's special dinner for PM Modi

Russian President Vladimir Putin will host a private dinner for Prime Minister Narendra Modi at his country house on the outskirts of Moscow.

At Modi’s stay, Russian artists will perform the traditional Indian dance, Garba, to welcome him. Later in the evening, he will attend the private dinner hosted by President Putin.

The highlight of the visit is the 22nd annual India-Russia summit, scheduled for Tuesday, where both leaders will engage in discussions covering a range of bilateral and global issues.  

Following his engagements in Russia, Modi will proceed to Austria, marking the first official visit by an Indian Prime Minister to the country in over four decades, since Indira Gandhi’s visit in 1983.  

The Kremlin has confirmed that President Putin will engage in face-to-face talks with Modi, with a preliminary informal meeting planned for Monday evening. Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov highlighted that the leaders will have ample opportunity for extensive, agenda-free discussions.  

Ahead of the visit, Indian officials indicated that key priorities for Modi include addressing the trade imbalance between India and Russia, as well as efforts to secure the release of Indian nationals caught up in the Ukraine conflict, who were reportedly deceived into participating.
