PM Modi in Moscow, Putin calls Modi his 'param mitra'

During his conversation with President Vladimir Putin, Prime Minister Modi pressed on his decade-long focus on the principles of reform, performance, and transformation. He stated that these principles have been widely embraced by the country, and he is committed to intensifying efforts during his third term in office.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Moscow, Russia earlier today. The First Deputy Prime Minister of Russia, Denis Manturov received him. He was also given a ceremonial welcome and Guard of Honour at the airport.

In a rare gesture, he also accompanied PM Modi to the hotel from the airport in the same car. PM Modi is on a two-day official visit to Russia. At the hotel, PM Modi met and interacted with Indian diaspora.

“This visit was highly awaited; I believe this visit of PM Modi will have an impact on the entire world politics. It will obviously have an impact on the business ties between Russia and India, Army deals, cultural relations and geopolitics. So, this is a very crucial meeting (between PM Modi and Russian President),” says Abhay Kumar Singh, the first Indian-origin lawmaker in Russia, on PM Modi’s two-day State visit.

India’s Ambassador to Austria, Shambhu S. Kumaran, on PM Modi’s upcoming visit, stated, “Prime Minister will engage in substantive discussions with Austrian Chancellor Karl Nehammer. He will also meet President Alexander Van der Bellen and interact with Austrian CEOs and an Indian business delegation.”

He further noted, “PM Modi will address the Indian community, who eagerly await his visit. There is great excitement among them, as they have been anticipating this visit for some time. This will be a significant highlight of the trip.”

With PM Modi’s arrival in Moscow, MEA Spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal posted a video of his on Scial media platform X explaining the agenda for the state visit.

One of Moscow’s landmarks, the Ostankino TV tower, was lit up in the colours of the flags of India and Russia on Monday as Prime Minister Narendra Modi began a two-day high-profile visit to the Russian capital to hold summit talks with President Vladimir Putin.

Rising to 1,771 feet (540m), the Ostankino TV Tower is the world’s 4th tallest and Europe’s highest of its kind. The tower was erected in 1967 by the well-known Soviet engineer, Nikolai Nikitin.

As the highest free-standing building in Russia, it is a renowned symbol of Russian broadcasting, as well as a famous landmark and a must-visit destination in Moscow.

On PM Narendra Modi’s visit to the country, Abhay Kumar Singh, United Russia Party’s Deputat says, “…PM Modi’s visit was awaited by not only President Putin but the local public too…Discussions and agreements will be held on important global topics – like defence deals. With Russian collaboration, BrahMos is giving good results. Similarly, some more defence deals will be struck after which Russian arms will be manufactured in India. Hindi films were very famous in Russia, across the Soviet Union in the past…In the past 2 years, Indian cinema – especially South Indian cinema – has been coming in Russia. People have started liking it. Russian President Vladimir Putin will host a private dinner for Prime Minister Narendra Modi at his country house on the outskirts of Moscow.

At Modi’s stay, Russian artists will perform the traditional Indian dance, Garba, to welcome him. Later in the evening, he will attend the private dinner hosted by President Putin.
