The Internet is at it again with a new conspiracy theory. The latest one doing the rounds is that Meredith McIver, who stated that she wrote Melania Trump’s controversial Republican National Convention speech, actually does not exist, reported Mashable. The basis for this theory came from the fact that Donald Trump has twice created fake identities as part of his campaign. So naturally, when Melania was criticised for giving a speech that plagiarised Michelle Obama’s 2008 speech, and a fall guy… err, woman, popped up and admitted it was her mistake , it didn’t take long for conspiracy fans to come up with theories.
Slate.com, however, found proof that she exists. Other than the Everypedia page that has been slammed in the tweet above, they noticed that she has been mentioned as a co-writer in several books Donald Trump has authored including How To Get Rich and Never Give Up. They also dug up an interview that The Guardian’s Gaby Wood conducted of Donald Trump in 2007 in which the reporter mentions meeting Meredith McIver at Trump’s office. That seems credible since McIver’s resignation letter, which was revealed to the public, was typed on Trump Organisation stationery. Maybe the conspiracists got it wrong this time, but as Trump himself tweeted about the speech fiasco: All press is good press.
