MEA asks Indians to leave South Sudan

New Delhi: India has advised its nationals in South Sudan to leave the troubled African nation and most Indians have already left or are in the process of leaving. “Most Indian nationals in South Sudan have already left or are in the process of leaving following advice by India’s Embassy in Juba,” ministry of external affairs spokesperson Syed Akabaruddin tweeted. AFP.[/caption] “Indian embassy in Juba (capital) is in touch with Indian association and companies employing Indian nationals to ensure safety and security,” he tweeted. The advisory was issued after fighting spread through South Sudan following a reported coup attempt in Juba last week. According to sources, there are 250-300 Indian nationals in South Sudan, the world’s newest nation. South Sudan gained independence from Sudan on July 9, 2011 as the outcome of a 2005 peace deal that ended Africa’s longest-running civil war. Most of its revenues come from oil.
