Most people aspire to look better, and if you are a bodybuilder, this obsession can push you to your physical limits. But what if the person you wanted to look like was the Hulk? Yes, the famous comic book character. [caption id=“attachment_2227290” align=“alignleft” width=“380”] hulk01 Romario Dos Santos Alves. Twitter @Barcroft_TV[/caption] Something similar happened with Romario Dos Santos Alves of Brazil, and his obsession (and addiction) almost cost him his life. Romario became obsessed with bodybuilding, and subsequently with drugs, after moving from his hometown of Caldas Novas to Goiania in Brazil three years ago, reports the Mail Online . “I saw some really big guys in the gym with huge arms and I started to make friends with them. They introduced me to synthol and I got excited about the results - I lost control,” said Romario in an interview. Romario injected his biceps with synthol - a cocktail of oil, painkillers and alcohol. He says he modeled his body on the ‘Incredible Hulk’. The results were horrifying. His muscles started to solidify and the doctors told him that they will have to amputate both his arms. He also suffered from constant pain and depression and tried to kill himself. He almost suffered kidney failure due to the toxins in the oil. All the while he was constantly fighting with his addiction. “I was hospitalised in a clinic and my wife was six months pregnant — it was just me and her, no friends or family. I decided to fix my ways and I never again wanted to take any drugs, we went through a really hard time and almost starved,” the Mirror quotes him saying. Romario finally decided to fix his ways and decided to never take drugs again. His biceps have swollen to an incredible 25 inches. “I regret it a lot — my ambition is still to become a bodybuilder but I’ve got a long way to go. I know I will achieve it though,” he says in an interview published by the Mirror .
