As Prime Minister Justin Trudeau prepares to lead the Liberals into the 2025 federal election, a new Angus Reid Institute poll indicates that a majority of Canadians, including over two-fifths of Liberal voters, believe it’s time for a new leader. According to the survey conducted among 1,878 Angus Reid Forum members that was released on Wednesday, 57 per cent of Canadians feel that Trudeau should step down. The study also suggested that the leader’s approval rating is currently at its lowest point during his eight-year tenure. It has been a very challenging year for Trudeau both personally and politically. In August, he announced his separation from his wife of 18 years. The Canadian economy is facing significant strain, with interest rates reaching a 22-year high, and citizens grappling with a high cost of living and an escalating housing crisis. On the international front, Trudeau’s recent revelation, linking Indian agents to the murder of a Sikh separatist leader in British Columbia, has put Canada in an awkward position, particularly with allies looking to strengthen their ties with New Delhi to counter China’s rise.
