Despite the announcement of the ceremony date, deliberations among Mahayuti allies and BJP leadership over the chief minister’s post and allocation of portfolios remain unresolved. No official name for the chief minister has been made public, even a week after the alliance secured a decisive victory in the state elections.
On Thursday, key leaders of the Mahayuti alliance, including caretaker Chief Minister Eknath Shinde of Shiv Sena, BJP leader Devendra Fadnavis, and Ajit Pawar of the NCP, met at the residence of Union Home Minister Amit Shah in New Delhi to finalize the state government formation.
Ahead of the meeting, Shinde had expressed his full support for the BJP’s choice for the next chief minister, stating he would not obstruct the process. Separately, Ajit Pawar affirmed that the chief minister would be from the BJP.
The coalition faces growing pressure to finalise its government structure and present a united front before the swearing-in ceremony next week.
