Two people were killed and six others injured after a shooting broke out at an unofficial after-party for a music festival in downtown Los Angeles. The incident happened early Monday at a warehouse, where a large crowd had gathered following the Hard Summer festival.

A shooting at an unofficial after-party for a popular music festival in downtown Los Angeles has left two people dead and six others injured.

The violence broke out early on Monday morning in a warehouse, turning what began as a night of celebration into a scene of tragedy.

Police were first called to the venue around 11 pm on Sunday after reports of an armed man entering the building. Officers arrived and broke up what was described as a large gathering, taking one suspect into custody at the time. However, the situation escalated a few hours later.

The event had been advertised on social media as an after-party for the Hard Summer music festival, which was held over the weekend in Inglewood, around nine miles away.

Despite the initial police intervention, gunfire was reported at around 1 am When officers returned, they found one man dead at the scene and several others with gunshot wounds. A woman later died in hospital.

According to the Associated Press, six people were taken to hospital. Their conditions have not been released. One local man told KABC-TV that his 29-year-old son was among the victims.

Police have not yet revealed any suspects or motives. Officers remained at the scene into Monday morning, collecting evidence and trying to piece together what happened.

The Los Angeles Police Department has asked anyone with information to come forward.
