Deeply honoured and touched by your special gestures for my visit, says Modi
Prime Minister Narendra Modi today said that he wants to see Bangladesh grow in the same manner as he dreams for India.
“I would like to Bangladesh grow in the same manner as I dream for India,” Modi said at a joint press conference which he addressed along with his Bangladeshi counterpart Sheikh Hasina.
The visiting prime minister said that India and Bangladesh are on the threshold of a new relationship and it would flourish in the future.
“We stand at a moment of huge opportunity in our relationship. Prime Minister Hasina and I recognise that. People in India admire your nation’s progress despite challenges. We want you to succeed in your Mission 2021 and 2041,” Modi said. “We are successful fellow travellers on the road to development.
This is a relationship of great importance for us and our region,” he said.
The highlight of Modi’s visit to Dhaka has been the signing of the India-Bangladesh Land Border Agreement and starting of two new bus services between the two neighbours.
“We have resolved a question that has lingered since Independence. Our two nations have a settled boundary. We launched two bus services that will connect our citizens more easily and our two nations more closely,” the prime minister said.
Prime Minister Modi also expressed his appreciation for the warmth shown towards him in the neighbouring country.
“And for me, it is a wonderful feeling of meeting a close neighbor. I am deeply honoured and touched by your special gestures for my visit. For me, there is the wonderful feeling of visiting a close neighbour,” he said.
“Vision and leadership, humanism and sacrifices give birth to dream of ‘Shonar Bangla’. Everything I have experienced here reflects the warmth and generosity of people of Bangladesh. Today morning I paid tribute to Bangabandhu, a great leader of our era,” the prime minister said.
Offering his thanks to accompanying West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, Modi said, “I am privileged to have with us the Chief Minister of West Bengal.”
