Knife attack in China's Beijing injures 5, including 3 children, say police

Five persons, including three children, were injured in a knife attack in China’s capital Beijing, according to police.

The knife attack occurred near a school in Beijing’s northwestern Haidian district on Monday midafternoon, said the police, as per a statement carried by Associated Press.

None of the injuries were life threatening and a 50-year-old suspect surnamed Tang was detained at the scene and is under investigation, said the statement.

The cite of the attack is a famous primary school. A video on social media showed two school-aged children whereas another photograph showed a man with blood on his face being pressed to the ground.

Even though such news has been rare in China over the years, multiple stabbing attacks have been reported in China this year, including many involving school-going children. Earlier this month, three people were killed and 15 were injured in a stabbing attack in Shanghai.

Unlike the United States, private gun-ownership is tightly regulated in China, which makes knives and homemade explosives the most-common tool in such crimes.
