“On advice of His Majesty’s Government, and at the invitation of The President of the United States, The King and Queen will undertake a State Visit to the United States of America. Their Majesties’ programme will celebrate the historic connections and the modern bilateral relationship between the UK and the US, marking the 250th anniversary of American Independence,” Buckingham Palace said in a statement on X.
The statement added that the King will continue on to Bermuda for his first royal visit as monarch to a British Overseas Territory.
The visit will go ahead despite calls for a delay over objections to the ongoing conflict with Iran.

“Melania and I are pleased to announce that Their Majesties, the King and Queen of the United Kingdom, will visit the United States for a Historic State Visit from April 27-30th, which will include a beautiful Banquet Dinner at the White House on the evening of April 28th," he wrote.
“This momentous occasion will be even more special this year, as we commemorate the 250th Anniversary of our Great Country. I look forward to spending time with the King, whom I greatly respect. It will be TERRIFIC!” he added.
Although Buckingham Palace officially confirmed the trip on Tuesday, King Charles’ visit to Washington this spring had been widely reported and speculated on in the British media for several weeks.
According to a CNN report, a growing number of UK lawmakers, however, have questioned whether it is appropriate for the King to go ahead with the visit, with some calling for it to be postponed or cancelled amid the ongoing conflict in the Middle East, now entering its second month.
The state visit comes as President Donald Trump has repeatedly criticised the UK government for its response to the US and Israel’s military campaign against Iran.
