Shortly after the UK PM Rishi Sunak conceded defeat, Kier Starmer’s Labour Party crossed the majority mark winning the highly anticipated 2024 UK General Elections. The Labour made a clean sweep this election reaching the magic number of 326 seats to gain the majority in the House of Commons.
Shortly after the results were made official, Starmer addressed a charged-up crowd in Central London. “We did it,” he said. “Four and a half years of work for changing the party. This is what it was for, a changed labour party ready to serve our country, ready to restore Britain to the service of working people,” he added. The Labour party has won the polls with at least 409 seats with Conservatives finishing second with merely 90 seats in the House of Commons.
Earlier today, UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak conceded the election to Labour while giving his declaration from his constituency of Richmond & Northallerton. “The Labour Party has won this general election, and I have called Sir Keir Starmer to congratulate him on his victory,” he said.
“I will now head down to London, where I will say more about tonight’s result, before I leave the job as prime minister, to which I have given my all,” he added.
‘We did it’: Starmer says as he sets to be the new PM
While addressing a massive crowd in Central London, Starmer emphasised that he is bringing a “changed labour party” to the people of the UK.
“We did it! You campaigned for it, you fought for it, you voted for it, and now it has arrived. Change begins now. And it feels good, I have to be honest. four and a half years of work changing the party, this is what it is for, a changed labour party, ready to serve our country, ready to restore Britain to the service of working people," the Labour Party leader averred.

In his victory speech, Starmer also pointed out that a great responsibility comes with Labour’s mandate. “Make no mistake, that is the great test of politics in this era. The fight for trust is the battle that defines our age,” Starmer exclaimed.
‘Country first. Party second’: Starmer lays out the plan
During his address, Starmer emphasised what these elections mean for him and his party. “Election victories don’t fall from the sky. They’re hard-won and hard fought for, and this one could only be won by a changed Labour Party,” he said.
He went on to claim that his government’s main task would be “country first, party second” and vowed to establish an economy where working-class families would be able to improve their lives. “Our task is nothing less than renewing the ideals that hold this country together,” he added.
Earlier today, Starmer held on to his home turf with over 18,000 votes. The early results show that the Labour Party is dominating the polls as key ministers of Sunak’s cabinet lost their seats. The Labour coming to power also marks the end of 14 years of reign by the Conservatives in the country.
