A new survey has found that JD Vance might have become the USA’s most-disliked vice president in recent history. Barely two months into office, his approval ratings have dropped below than that of his predecessor Kamala Harris, according to a poll published by Real Clear Polling.
Revelations by poll
The poll revealed that Vance’s favourable-unfavourable rating is 41.7 per cent to 44.8 per cent, meaning a net unfavourable rating of -3.1 percentage points.
The survey revealed that Vance’s approval ratings improved following his heated exchange with Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelenskyy at the Oval Office last month. Last month, Vance’s favourable-unfavourable rating stood at 42.4 per cent to 48.0 per cent.
Kamala Harris’s approval rating
On Election Day, November 5, 2024, RCP’s final average showed Kamala Harris with a 48.7 per cent favourable rating and 48.6 per cent unfavourable.
A NYT/Siena poll (Oct 20-23, 2024) had her tied at 48 per cent with then-Republican candidate Donald Trump. By March 3, 2025, a FiveThirtyEight update placed her favorability at 46.1 per cent and unfavourability at 48.1 per cent.
Vance, a successor of Trump?
This comes as Trump in a recent interview declined to endorse Vance as his successor.
When asked whether he viewed Vance as his potential successor, Trump said, “No, but he’s very capable.” “I think you have a lot of very capable people. So far, I think he’s doing a very fantastic job,” the president added. “It’s too early; we’re just starting.”
Interestingly, US billionaire Elon Musk last month endorsed Vance for the top office. Responding to a post on X, Musk wrote on February 28, “Best VP ever and our future President”.
At 39, Vance is the third-youngest vice president in American history and one of the least politically experienced, having served just one Senate term before taking office.
