Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on Wednesday (April 2) that all customs duties on products imported from the United States will be removed.
In a post on X, he said that this move is part of his government’s decade-long effort to increase market competition, offer more choices, and lower the cost of living.
Netanyahu also highlighted the decision’s importance in strengthening Israel’s ties with the US. He stated that reducing trade barriers would benefit both countries and reinforce their close relationship.
This announcement comes just before former US President Donald Trump’s planned introduction of new tariffs on April 2, which he calls “Liberation Day."
Trump is set to make an official statement at 4 PM (local time) on Wednesday in the White House Rose Garden.
Since taking office on January 20, Trump has imposed various tariffs, including high duties on imports from Canada and Mexico, as well as sector-specific tariffs on metals and automobiles.
